Fashion Trends for Spring 2023

Fashion changes in a blink of an eye! I personally don't change my wardrobe to meet trends. I'm a jeans and t-shirt person and I like it and so does my husband. My no-make-up, casual, comfortable wardrobe and sneakers are not threatened by the fashions of the day. They know that at my age, I am not going to risk comfort for style! That being said, I do appreciate style and I used to be quite stylish in my youth. The styles coming out for Spring are, well, I hate to utter these words... back to the 1980s.

Since Spring is quickly approaching, It's time to de-ice that sewing machine and get that Spring Wardrobe made!

However, the forecast from VOGUE included Kate Moss wearing a white tank top, a flannel shirt, and blue jeans. Well, not denim jeans, they were leather distressed to look like denim.

What are some essentials to stock your closet with?

  1. Cargo Pants with lots of pockets or a Cargo-Styled Skirt!

  2. An oversized Cargo Jacket (are you noticing a trend?)

  3. a Pair of Baggy Pants in a muted, earthy color

  4. Jumpsuits!

  5. Mini Skirts, the shorter the better

  6. Denim with seaming details - Skirts or Pants

  7. Blazers - Single Breasted, Double Breasted, or Belted Wrap

  8. Crocheted Tops and Dresses

  9. Denim with frayed edges and yes, holes are still in fashion

  10. Draped Evening Dresses and Skirts. Flowing fabric creates that elegant look that turns heads!

Look below for patterns that match some of the styles that are sure to turn heads this Spring.

#8 Crochet Top

You can find this great instruction book at Candy Goeller Patterns

#1 Cargo Pants. This gem is available from Redcurlzs

Loose-Fitting with lots of pockets.

Wear them with a Crocheted Top

from above.

#2 Loose-Fitting Cargo Jacket

While this pattern isn't exactly a Cargo Style

Jacket, View 1 is loose-fitting and has 4 oversized pockets with flaps.

You can find this pattern at Old Patterns

#5 The Mini Skirt/Dress -

The trend is shorter than the Micro Mini

of the 1960s & 70s.

The White and Polka Dot Skirts in this 70s Simplicity pattern offered by The Gingham Life are close to the new shorter Micro Mini Length.

#4 - Jumpsuits

I am, while writing this, helping my sister, long distance helping, sew a jumpsuit. While Cargo Jumpsuits and Baggy Jumpsuits would be the obvious Fashion "Do" for Spring, All varieties of Jumpsuits are in! Here are just a few examples

SIMPLICITY 9113 with wide legs and a Bohemian Look

is easy to make and goes from day to evening with

a few accessories modifications! And - a 40 Bust!

Butterick 5363 can be worn in several different ways

Strapless, halter, color block! You choose.

There are many styles that fit these trends. Consider your body type and where you want to wear it. Then pick a pattern and some cool fabric!

I live in jumpsuits (and overalls) and have a couple patterns I'm dying to sew up! That "change about" one in the article is great!

I went shopping today and noticed cargo pants in all departments including kids from toddler to teens, and Men's & Women's departments! I think the cargo pants and the crocheted top would be adorable! My sister is sewing a jumpsuit this week. I'm the technical advisor for the project since she doesn't really sew!

Oh, my! The 80s. I do love jumpsuits but don't have the figure for them anymore. Love the crocheted tops. So cute! Already have frayed denim and blazers. Am I ready for spring? My daffodils are coming up so I believe I am.

I graduated from high school in 1980 so I was definitely in the thick of it. I had a really cute romper with wide leg shorts and a self ruffle at the neck. Soon I transitioned to crewneck wool sweaters and oxford cloth shirts with Levi's 501 button fly jeans.

I don't do fashion anymore. Comfort is what I want. My daughter does her unique version!
